Government is the Problem, Not the Solution Essay

Ronald Reagan once claimed â€Å"government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. Over time history has been able to back up what Reagan once asserted. In a nation rich in history such as the United States, it is easy to go in either direction with this debate yet the state of the nation usual depicts which direction the people choose. A time such as now, where our great nation has been less fortunate in its last decade yet has found a way to climb out of the dust, it is a perfect time to debate on such a topic. Looking back on the past 80 years, history has many points in which exposes the flaws in our government making it a problem. A government must be popular within its citizens to succeed yet one problem is the†¦show more content†¦277) or having â€Å"50% of the Negro soldiers are working in base jobs† (pg.277) when it’s the government’s policy that â€Å"every potential fighting man must be used as a fighting man. If yo u have such a man in a base job, you have no choice. His job must be eliminated or be filled by a limited service man, WAC, or civilian†(pg.277). This contradiction would a raft within the nation because we were fighting for equality in other nations; we had overlooked fighting for equality within our own nation. Our own government would in turn be creating a problem within our country, giving the right for people to look at it as a problem. During the 1980s, jobs started to become harder to find and jobs being exported to other countries, started to make citizens complain about private power. People began to believe that that the government was mal-distributing the private power. A Unionist wrote about private jobs in 1987, saying, â€Å"For the past 15 years, we have been occupied with the very real problem of jobs leaving this country† (pg.498). Job security was a â€Å"touchy† subject among American citizens and these citizens looked to the government to stop the spread of American jobs to other countries such as Barbados.
